After moving across the country, my wife, Brittany, and I struggled, as many neurodivergent people do, to make new friends. We’re lifelong tabletop players and thought we’d join a local group to meet new people. The only problem? The group wasn’t just about rolling dice and fighting monsters—they welcomed us and encouraged us to be ourselves, even as strangers. For the first time in years, we didn’t feel like we needed to mask; we could just be ourselves without explaining, apologizing, or pretending.
